Donation of Christmas money to the wards.
The Friends donated a total of £3,210 to the wards at the PRUH, including £300 to the three wards at Green Parks. We based our giving on the number of beds in each ward. The money to be used at the ward manager’s discretion for the benefit of patients and staff. We also gave boxes of sweets or biscuits to the departments that have to work over the Christmas period.

They were purchased following a donation from the Brethren of the Plumstead Lodge.
Donation of distraction sensory items for Children’s Outpatients and presentation to Olive for raising the funds for this donation
On Tuesday 8th September at 4pm outside Children’s Outpatients at the front of the hospital there was a presentation to Olive Egan, an 8 year old girl, who did a 3k run for the Friends of the PRUH in May. Olive raised £969.78 and it has been spent on distraction sensory items for the Children’s Outpatients Department. These are an Apple iPad and case, a Sensory Hurricane Column, a Bear Activity Wall Panel, a 9 Domed Acrylic Mirror Panel and in addition a Coffee Machine for the Staff.
The Friends of the Princess Royal University Hospital were very pleased that they were able to use the fantastic sum of money that Olive raised to fund this request for the sensory items and presented Olive with a certificate. The hospital staff gave Olive a cake, flowers, sweets and balloons which was a lovely gesture. It was a very happy occasion and a positive event in the current situation we are all in.
Attending were Pauline Allard, Chairman Friends of the PRUH, Frances Gyateng, Matron, Children’s Outpatients and Sarah Herridge-Lewer, Associate Director of Nursing – PRUH and South Sites representing the Hospital, plus Olive’s Mum, brother, members of the team from Children’s Outpatients and Trustees of the Friends of the PRUH.
Friends of the PRUH facilitate the donation of audible books for the Hospital
By chance, listening to Radio 4, our Treasurer heard about the Charity booksfordad.co.uk. It was started by Nicky and Sam Woolf after their father was ventilated with Covid 19. They downloaded books for him to listen to and subsequently started the Charity with financial help from Audible UK and British Airways.
The Friends were very quickly in touch and within a month on September 2nd 40 audible devises were delivered to the Hospital by the brothers. We were delighted that these were accepted outside the hospital by Debbie Hutchinson, Director of Nursing for the PRUH and South Sites and Canon Timothy Mercer, Deputy Head of Chaplaincy. These will very shortly be made available to patients on the wards and all concerned are sure that they will be very much appreciated by all our patients.
